The middle school is key periods for the development of students' personal abilities and intelligence. The acquisition of learning methods and the critical evaluation of acquired information are as important as the study of theoretical knowledge. KWYA’s middle school program – the IN course -- is a curriculum system developed by our school for students who need to improve their English in order to achieve specific learning goals and to adapt them to the atmosphere of our school.
The IN curriculum is dominated by eight “IN” principles. These eight principles are highly consistent with our IB philosophy, namely: international vision, multiculturalism, comprehensive balance, diligent study, interdisciplinary, intelligent thinking, independence, and solidarity. The program offers all courses in the national compulsory education stage, using bilingual teaching in Chinese and English, and providing language assistance when necessary so that students can improve their language skills while learning subject knowledge.
At the same time, students must acquire the ability to learn independently by effectively evaluating information through critical thinking. The development of these abilities is as important as learning classroom knowledge. Our middle school curriculum encourages students to inquire; be willing to try, communicate, and be balanced. It helps students improve their knowledge, comprehension, personal skills and correct learning attitudes in order to participate more actively in local and global social activities.
The primary objective of the secondary curriculum is to support and encourage students to learn in all aspects. The assessment method mainly includes four aspects: knowledge and understanding ability, research ability, communication ability, and critical thinking ability. The assessment of learning is not based on every big exam, but on four aspects throughout the semester, thus providing students with many different opportunities to show their abilities.
